I got the idea for this project from a friend of mine who had written a personal commentary of the Book of Revelation for his daughter. It was all hand-written and quite detailed. From all reports, she really appreciated it.
Many of you are too far away to talk with personally every day, but there are so many other ways to communicate. I decided that I would try to find a way to tell you what I see in Scripture, and we could benefit together even though we are separated by the miles.
Think of this adventure as you and me, walking through the woods, taking our time to stop and look at details along the way, and putting all the pieces of our discoveries together. We could sit around the campfire at night and discuss how it all fits into one magnificent picture. That’s what this is about. Exploring the New Testament and discovering the glory of God as He’s revealed Himself.
I started the lessons with the intention of keeping them at a summary level, but the further I went along, the more excited I got about digging deeper and deeper into the Word. It’s actually a picture of how your lives are supposed to be - starting out with solid foundations, and growing in wisdom as you mature.
Eventually, as the apostle Paul wrote, “…you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith …” 1 Tim 4:6
You will get the maximum benefit from our walk together if you read the lesson verses first, then read what I have to say about it. If you seriously want to get nourished, you’ll read that section in your Bible again afterwards. Set a goal for yourself. Read at least one lesson each day, maybe even one in the morning and one in the evening. It’s a great way to begin and end each day. If you do two lessons each day, you’ll complete the entire series in two and one-half years !
Whatever pace you set for yourself, our prayer (Grandma and me) is that you fully understand what the Scriptures teach about eternal life, which is found only through trusting in the perfect work of Jesus Christ. He alone is God’s revealed plan for salvation, given for one grand purpose - the glory of God.
All my love, Grandpa
(and Grandma, too)
A five-year labor of love for our grandchildren, and for you.
“This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord”
Psalm 102:18
